In what is a quite astonishing turn of events, the transfer taking João Palhinha from Fulham to Bayern Munich has now collapsed.

This is according to Florian Plettenberg for Sky Germany, who took to Twitter to reveal the news about the failed deal.

With the Bundesliga’s transfer deadline being at 6pm local time, there was limited time for the transfer to go through in the first place, and it was reported not too long ago that despite the player having already travelled to Munich, both he and the Bavarians were waiting for the green light from Fulham.

Why that was wasn’t explained, but the Craven Cottage side were clearly biding their time for some reason, and now the chance for a deal has collapsed.

This will come as a huge blow for Palhinha, who was desperate to make the step up from Fulham to Bayern Munich, and unless something late happens in the last few hours of the transfer window elsewhere in Europe, he will have to return to London.

What comes next is a mystery, but there is a scenario where he now has to play for the Craven Cottage side until at least January, or sit out the first half of the season entirely if he doesn’t want to feature.
