Tottenham Hotspur had scouts in Portugal last night to watch Porto’s 3-2 win over Famalicão in the second leg of their Taca de Portugal semi-final clash.

That’s according to O Jogo, who fail to name who Tottenham were at the game to watch but say they were there alongside five other teams.

Porto ran out 3-2 winners in the game, which went to extra time after Ivan Jaime’s strike in the 75th minute made it 2-2 on aggregate.

Otávio proved to be the winner with a strike in the 121st minute before Evanilson added another three minutes later to make it a winning scoreline on the night and 5-3 overall.

The player Tottenham were likely in Porto to watch was goalkeeper Diogo Costa, who has been named as a target for the club long before now as they seek a long-term replacement for Hugo Lloris.

Indeed, a report last month made it clear that they were keen on his signature and not scared of his €75m release clause.

If that was the case, they were likely left frustrated as Costa was left on the bench and was instead replaced by Cláudio Ramos, so it was then an opportunity to look at other potential targets.

The obvious man who caught the eye was Otávio, who not only got himself on the scoresheet but did so in superb fashion with a brilliant volley from just outside of the area smashed into the top corner.

Tottenham could certainly do with a creative number ten like him and his 11 assists and five goals in 40 games is a decent enough record in itself.

At 28-years-old, though, it seems unlikely he’d be on their list of targets and instead it was a case of a wasted visit in their long pursuit of Costa.
