For anyone wondering whether Lucas Bergvall will be physically ready for the Premier League, rest assured Tottenham fans, he is putting in the work.

The midfielder was speaking to the Swedish media after Djurgården’s first game of the season, in which he scored, and he was asked about his physical changes over the past year.

One was about his weight, and the Tottenham signing, relayed by Aftonbladet, made it clear he has been working very hard to bulk up in order to avoid being pushed around as much on the field.

He said: “Since the beginning of last season? It’s about eight kilos. I’m up to 80 kilos something. That’s a lot (laughs). A hell of a lot of gym. Legs above all, and a little upper body, but a lot of legs, glutes.”

Asked if he was squatting a lot, he added: “Yes, everything possible. Some nordic hamstring, RDL, hip thrust and all that. It feels like I have become more physical. I go into duels, protect the ball better and work harder.”

In case you are one of the few who missed the news back in January, Tottenham beat Barcelona to the signing of the now 18-year-old midfielder.

The move was made official just after the transfer window, as he wouldn’t have been able to join Spurs until the summer regardless of when the deal was struck because of Brexit rules.

Therefore, the Tottenham signing will now stay in his home country until the end of the season before working under Ange Postecoglou in the next pre-season, with the plan being for him to integrate the first-team immediately.
