Christian Eriksen is used to the Danish media picking up English praise about him, not the opposite.

The Tottenham player has for a long time been one of his country’s shining lights and therefore it’s usually all positive in Denmark, with the usual negativity relating to why he can’t transfer his Spurs form to the national side.

Things have changed in recent months, and after scoring two goals for Denmark in a World Cup Qualifier against Kazakhstan, Tottenham fans may well be asking if Eriksen can transfer his national team form to Spurs.

Instead of writing about awards and plaudits Eriksen is up for, now the Danish media are covering what unimpressed pundits and fans are saying.

Ekstra Bladet have picked up quotes from Alan Shearer saying: “I think that Eriksen has been poor all season. He has not contributed enough.”

Even a declaration of disappointment from Kevin Kilbane has been picked up.

More striking is the angry Tottenham fans who Ekstra Bladet have found, with one on social media saying Eriksen is ‘f***ing shit’ and ‘needs to be dropped’.

It may well be embarrassing for the player if he knows all this negativity is ending up back in Denmark, although there is someone sticking up for him.

TV3 have coverage of the player’s poor pass against West Ham, where he inexplicably kicked the ball out of play, and they ask if it was an act of ‘fair play’: ‘He thought that there was an injured player?’

We can’t tell if they’re being sarcastic.

It sounds like it’s arm around the shoulder time for Mauricio Pochettino.
