Chelsea were repeatedly linked to AS Roma’s Radja Nainggolan over the summer. There were even claims a transfer had been agreed, but that was very wide of the mark.

Roma were keen to keep Nainggolan so the only way a transfer was remotely possible was if the Belgium international wanted out. The problem for Chelsea was that he very much didn’t.

Nainggolan has repeatedly stated how happy he is both with life at Roma and life in Rome. He values his outside of football life, and is happily settled in the Italian city. Even Nainggolan’s sister plays for Roma’s female team.

On Monday reports emerged in the Italian media that Nainggolan had a spat with Roma’s assistant manager, complaining he wasn’t aware of his role on the pitch, and what the management wanted him to do.

That was inevitably followed with claims of hope for Chelsea, that the falling out would make a transfer more likely.

However, Nainggolan himself has taken to Twitter to rubbish the claims.

The midfielder said that it’s incredible what journalists invent, and dismissed the idea of there being truth in the story.

That would appear to be that and, unless something changes dramatically, Antonio Conte will have to look elsewhere for Chelsea.
