Vincent Janssen is currently being seen as the alternative type footballer in the Netherlands, a break from the new routine of flashy players who have had their careers, and huge fortunes, handed to them on a plate thanks to a helping of natural talent.

Janssen was released by Feyenoord as a youngster and had to fight his way back to the top level. He’s seen as having a brilliant attitude, and being a breath of fresh air to some others before him.

The Dutch press don’t need to say it, it’s pretty clear they feel the opposite end of the spectrum is Memphis Depay.

Dutch national manager Danny Blind has put his faith in Janssen to get the Netherlands out of the hole they dug themselves into. Janssen has started the last 5 matches for his country and that helps bring confidence, which can only help Tottenham too.

AD newspaper quote Janssen as saying: “The last five games I’ve started, this gives confidence, yes. It’s a great feeling, every time you see that shirt with the number nine. I’m very proud of it.”

Janssen’s energy and effort has helped Dutch fans take to him, but it’s just part of his game: “I have a lot of energy in my game, even already as a youth player.

“The more I’m moving, the stronger I feel. Sometimes I’m a little too excited, I just want to be happy.”

Janssen and the Netherlands are made for each other at this moment in time, and a goal tonight against Sweden would be very welcome.
