Following Manchester City’s 3-0 win over Young Boys in the Champions League last night, Matheus Nunes had a word with the Brazilian media about their campaign and his adaptation to his new club.
Besides all the comments he made on their performance against the Swiss side, the 25-year-old had a lot to say about how he’s been fitting into Pep Guardiola’s tactics.
Speaking to TNT Sports, Nunes claims to be finding many new things at Manchester City, where he often needs to change position during games.
“I’ve learnt a lot from the coaches at the clubs I’ve played for. But I think there are things here that are very different from what I learnt,” Matheus Nunes told TNT Sports.
“There are a lot of variations within our game. Within a game, you can change tactics two or three times, the way you look at the opponent. If you have to play centre-back or right-back, you have to do it momentarily. So there’s a lot that’s new and you have to get used to it. But I’m also learning from a lot of great players here and that makes my job a lot easier.”
The midfielder also talked a little bit more about having Pep Guardiola in charge.
“Obviously it’s fantastic. You can see the way he sees the game. It’s different from the others. I’ve only just arrived and I still have a lot to learn from him. As a coach he’s incredible, one of the best I’ve ever had, if not the best. And I can only see my game getting better and better.”
It was last summer that Manchester City spent €62m to take Matheus Nunes from Wolverhampton Wanderers. The transfer to the Etihad side happened just one year after he arrived in England, having switched Sporting for Wolves for €45m in 2022.
Since joining Manchester City, Nunes has 12 appearances, having made two assists. He’s still fighting to earn a starting place in Pep Guardiola’s side, and had a spot in the team in three of their four Champions League games so far.
