Since Barcelona completed the signing of Antoine Griezmann, there’s been no major movements in regards to their efforts to take Neymar from PSG.
A ‘confidencial’ report from Sport states the ‘Neymar operation’ is currently at a standstill and needs movement from the highest level to reactivate it.
The intermediaries involved in the complex negotiations are currently on standby, after exhausting all possible formulas for the deal to take shape.
PSG, for their part, are aware the various options worked out by Barcelona to sign the South American. This includes using other players as part of the deal or signing Neymar on a loan deal with a mandatory purchase option.
The Ligue 1 side will only consider the last option if they have exhausted other alternatives.
The headline of the report from Sport reads, ‘A gesture by Bartomeu could speed up the signing’.
Within the report, it’s explained PSG would give ‘great value’ if there is a gesture from Barca president Josep Maria Bartomeu, either via a call or a visit.
Thomas Tuchel’s side want to make sure the interest from Barcelona in Neymar is ‘real’ so that they can take the conversations forward.
PSG will view Barca’s interest in Neymar as credible only if there is a direct intervention from Bartomeu, where he officially expresses his side’s interest in the attacker.
Neymar’s desire is to join Ernesto Valverde’s side and it’s the only destination he wants to move to this summer.
There is still over a month left to get the deal over the line and it remains to be seen which club will Neymar represent once the window is closed.
