Back at the start of the month, we saw Chelsea defender Thiago Silva revealing that he tried to bring Willian back to the club.

That happened in 2021, when the winger left Arsenal to join Corinthians. There weren’t many details in that story, with the Blues’ centre-back only claiming ‘things didn’t work out’ back then.

It turns out that as the Fulham star now spoke to IG, he confirmed that the story was true, claiming he really wanted a comeback to Chelsea at the time.

“Thiago is a friend that I’ve had since I left Chelsea, when he arrived right after. We always talk and since then he always says that I shouldn’t have left,” Willian told IG.

“When I was about to leave Arsenal, he tried to talk to the Chelsea people, but unfortunately nothing happened. But he had this conversation to try to get me back, but it didn’t happen”.

Willian was also asked about the rivalry in London, given that he’s played for Chelsea, Arsenal and now Fulham. There he talked about Jorginho, claiming the former Blues’ midfielder should work out well with the Gunners.

“It happens regularly here, several Chelsea players have already gone to Arsenal and vice versa and I see that as natural, when you see that the cycle at the club is ending it is normal to look for something that is good for you.

“Of course, some Chelsea fans will certainly not like it, due to the rivalry, but the important thing is that he is happy and I think he has everything to shine at Arsenal, he’s a player of great quality.”

Willian played for Chelsea between 2013 and 2020, and left the club with a record of 63 goals and 62 assists in 339 appearances. Following his spells at Arsenal and Corinthians, many thought he was done for the Premier League, but has proven useful for Fulham this season, with three goals and three assists in 18 games for Marco Silva’s side so far.
