Fulham forward Willian has shared his delight at how this season has gone for him and his team and revealed his personal highlights from a superb campaign.

The Brazilian has been speaking to Sambafoot as Fulham gear up to end the season on a high after impressing in their first campaign back in the Premier League.

They’ll be finishing tenth in the table but with a club record 15 wins in the league and, if they win on the final day, a record points tally to boot.

It’s been an impressive year for them, particularly as many had predicted they would struggle to replicate their form from the Championship last season.

Willian has been a key part of their success and admits that it has been a year full of ‘special moments’ for him and his teammates.

“I’ve been experiencing special moments. Every game has been special, every win has been important,” he said.

“I think I can say our game against Southampton away from home was a special moment. The club reached 15 wins in a Premier League edition, and I think it was a number that the club maybe never reached.

“This year we have achieved that. We can still beat 55 points if we win the next game. If we get to that, we’ll have the highest points total in the team’s history – if I’m not mistaken, the highest was 53.

“This game against Southampton was special and we are aiming to break the record. For sure, it will be very special.”

Willian has managed five goals and five assists in 26 games for Fulham this season, an impressive tally for a 34-year-old who arrived after a disappointing and tumultuous return to Brazil.

His best performance arguably came at the beginning of this month, when he bagged two goals against Leicester in a thrilling 5-3 win for his side.

Indeed, goals against sides at the bottom half of the table have been something of a speciality for the winger this season given he’s also struck against Leeds, Chelsea and Nottingham Forest, as well as an assists against Everton and Crystal Palace.

No game proved to be as successful as that one against the Foxes, though, a game which he thinks is indicative of the campaign he’s enjoyed.

“In that Leicester game, I got the two goals. It’s always good when you score goals and especially two in one game,” he added.

“For sure, it was an important game, a game in which the team played well, and I could contribute not only with goals, but with good plays. I played very well too.

“Not only in this game against Leicester, but in the whole season I’ve been doing very well, regardless of the goals I’ve been producing a lot for the team, playing well, creating plays, giving passes for goals.

“This game was a reflection of what has been happening in the season with me and with the team as well, playing good games and always evolving. This has been good.”
