Pulling off a surprise win against Tottenham, KAA Gent in Belgium are pretty proud of what they achieved on Thursday night.

‘Underestimating’ their opponents, as explained by Mousa Dembélé after the game, Mauricio Pochettino’s men will now have to ensure they score at least two goals at Wembley without conceding if they are to qualify for the next round of the Europa League.

While the whole of the KAA Gent will unlikely forget their win against Spurs anytime soon, one man in particular will probably remember it for the rest of his life: Jeremy Perbet.

The 32-year-old striker’s goal, a bundled left-footed finish at his second attempt, was the decisive one in the 1-0 win, and the veteran is pretty pleased with it as he explained after the game, relayed by DH.

He said: “It’s the most important goal of my career. I don’t think I’ve ever scored against such a club since I’ve been a professional footballer. At Villarreal, I played against Barcelona or Real Madrid, but I’d sadly never found the back of the net.

“It’s quite surprising to be better against a top team like Tottenham, and to struggle against smaller teams in the Jupiler Pro League. The return fixture will however be very complicated. We’ll have to score if we want to qualify”.

Playing for no fewer than 11 clubs, the well-travelled goalscorer has been in relatively good form for the Belgian side, scoring 11 goals in 32 games, but, unless he scores the qualifying goal in the return leg at Wembley, this is the one he will cherish the most.
