Championship side Bristol City are very close to signing 28-year-old defender Yohan Tavares on a free transfer, according to reports from Portugal.

Notícias ao Minuto says the agreement between player and club is only dependent on a few details being sorted out and should be done in the next few days.

The transfer is reportedly being taken care of by Cesar Boaventura, CEO of GIC management, who also managed the moves of Mika to Sunderland and Bruno Ribeiro to Port Valle.

After leaving his youth club Le Mans in 2008, Yohan Tavares had spells at Beira-Mar, Standard Liège and Chievo Verona until he started playing for Estoril, where he’s been for the past three seasons and saw his contract run out this summer.

Notícias ao Minuto claims the defender is currently working to keep his physical form in France as he waits for the move to be sorted. He played 35 matches for Estoril last season and was the club captain.

Sheffield Wednesday were strongly linked with a move for Tavares earlier on this year, but a deal didn’t get over the line.
