On Wednesday evening, Claude Puel was announced as Leicester City’s new manager, replacing the recently sacked Craig Shakespeare.

The French manager, whose last job was at Southampton, taking the Saints to an EFL Cup final and eighth in the Premier League, will now be expected to steady what had once again become a sinking ship at King Power Stadium, something Michael Appleton had already started doing in interim.

The process to appoint Puel was also a quick one, with contact being made for the first time last week, with the ex-Nice coach meeting Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha on Friday in London, according to RMC Sport.

Clearly impressed with him, the financial aspect of his contract was discussed on Monday night, which continued on Tuesday and ended on Wednesday before putting pen to paper around 6pm.

Expected to earn around €2.8m/season until 2020, Puel is said to have found a Leicester board who were sympathetic to his situation, not understanding why Southampton parted ways with him in the first place.

Furthermore, Leicester were impressed with his ability to develop young players and his knowledge of the Foxes’ squad.

Puel gave a detailed plan of what he would do to change the style of football at King Power Stadium in order to get them back up the table, which suited the board’s vision of a more attacking philosophy.

It all sounds great on paper, but will the French manager be able to back his vision with results?
