At the weekend, Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp admitted that Cody Gakpo’s injury could possibly be a ‘bad one’.
The forward picked up a knee injury in the Reds’ defeat to Tottenham Hotspur and Eindhovens Dagblad journalist Rik Elfrink reported on Monday that he’s expected to be out of action for several weeks.
Today’s Algemeen Dagblad have provided a positive update on the Liverpool player’s injury setback.
The Netherlands international suffered a knee injury after scoring for the Merseyside club in their last tie, and initial claims suggested he could be out of action for two to six weeks.
The ‘insiders’ told the newspaper yesterday that ‘fortunately nothing is broken’ (that won’t just be related to bones but ligaments too), and Gakpo is expected to be out of action at least until after the upcoming international break.
This means the 24-year-old will certainly miss Liverpool’s next two games against Royale Union Saint-Gilloise and Brighton & Hove Albion in the coming days, and also the national team’s fixtures against Greece and the Republic of Ireland.
Oranje manager Ronald Koeman will have to rely upon others in the Liverpool attacker’s absence, and that’s caused quite some disappointment in the Netherlands.
