Jorginho’s contract at Arsenal will expire at the end of this season and the Gunners have an option to extend it for another year.
On March 27th, the midfielder’s agent Joao Santos said he isn’t clear if Mikel Arteta’s side want to extend his client’s deal.
Santos has been speaking to TV Play and provided an update on the midfielder’s future at Arsenal beyond this season.
Bayern Munich will host the north London club later today and the agent claims the focus is on the Champions League quarter-final tie. He mentioned this when asked about the 32-year-old’s renewal and also stated there’s no rush to extend Jorginho’s contract.
“Did Arsenal call us for the renewal? Right now, we’re focused on the Champions League return leg against Bayern Munich, we’re in no hurry. If they were to call us in a month or two to discuss the renewal, that’s fine with us,” he said.
At the same time, the representative has left the door open for the former Napoli star to return to Serie A in the summer window.
“Would Jorginho like to return to Italy? Yes, of course, because he grew up in Italy and he likes everything about your country,” Santos explained.
If the Arsenal player were to return to Italy, he would be open to joining a club with an ambitious sporting project. At the same time, the agent has revealed there hasn’t been any contract from Fiorentina so far.
“If Fiorentina could think about getting a player of Jorginho’s level? You have to understand if they think of Jorginho first and foremost. In front of an ambitious project, of a club that wants to aim for the Champions League, there would be no problem for us. At the moment, however, Fiorentina have not contacted us,” he added.
Two days ago, Tutto Juve stated the Brazil-born Italy international could be a real option for Juventus if he were to leave Arsenal in the next window. However, Santos claims a move to the Turin club may not be ideal for Jorginho.
“Juve? In my opinion they don’t need a player like Jorginho, if [Cristiano] Giuntoli needs a midfielder like Jorginho then he could contact me,” the agent concluded.
