Benfica fans don’t seem worried about the departure of Victor Lindelof. In a poll this week, newspaper O Jogo got quite a surprising result when asking who should he sold by the club.

The poll was especially made for the players who have been strongly linked to Manchester United: Victor Lindelof and Nelson Semedo. They were asking if the fans wanted to sell only Lindelof, only Semedo, both, or neither of them.

32.7% of the fans voted to sell both, 31.6% to sell only Lindelof, 18.6% didn’t want either going, 6.8% voted for Semedo to leave and the other 10.3% didn’t have an answer.

The rumours which said both Lindelof and Semedo were close to joining Manchester United have gone pretty cold recently. The Swede, as we all know, returned to Benfica’s squad after José Mourinho didn’t push ahead with the deal. Semedo, who had only two or three serious articles backing up his move, was never mentioned again.

CapturarWhat this poll shows is how good this business would be for Benfica. They hoped to get €50m for the central defender and, as recently claimed by O Jogo, the right-back would go for at least €40m.

The results also make it clear that despite the good money, the fans still trust Semedo’s potential. The home grown player seems to have much more affection from them, while a lot of them want Lindelof gone. It’s a bit like: ‘we want all this cash, but if we’re keeping someone, better be our boy’.

A few weeks after the excitement over an almost done deal, maybe Manchester United fans should start asking: is Lindelof worth all that money? Maybe the opinion from the other side could tell something about that.
