Exclusive: Filipe Melo keen on proving himself at Sheffield Wednesday, not thinking of leaving again

 

Portuguese midfielder Filipe Melo is still to hear Sheffield Wednesday’s decision regarding his future, his agent has revealed.

The 27-year-old, who spent the last five months on loan at Paços Ferreira, is now returning to The Owls with a handful of clubs interested in him.

And after confirming Carlos Carvalhal’s stay, Sheffield Wednesday now must revaluate the squad and decide whether their loanees should be kept or not. Representative Carlos Neto has spoken to Sport Witness and explained the player’s situation at the club.

“I still don’t know Sheffield Wednesday’s decision,” Carlos Neto told Sport Witness.

Regarding the competition for the midfielder, Melo’s agent revealed there are “some medium clubs who have no resources to pay the salary he earns at Sheffield Wednesday”. So in case of a new loan, the Championship side should probably have to continue paying part of his wages.

But despite a few good months in Portugal, Melo is not really keen on returning to his home country once again. According to Carlos Neto, the midfielder “wants to stay England if to be used regularly”.

Filipe Melo joined Sheffield Wednesday from Moreirense in February 2015. He’s suffered with injuries ever since, and spent an entire year without playing due to a knee surgery.

After showing he’s back in form during his loan, he could finally have a chance under Carlos Carvalhal again. The player seems ready for that, so it’s now up to the manager.
