Brazilian midfielder Gustavo Scarpa was clearly very excited to make his move to Nottingham Forest a couple of months ago. And now that his dream of featuring in the Premier League was fulfilled, he seems glad that it all went as he expected.

The 29-year-old was this week interviewed by GQ Brasil, and had a good conversation about his adaptation to England, claiming he already feels at home there. Especially because he’s already learned how to drive in the British way.

“I thought I would struggle to learn, I was afraid to drive, but I managed to get the hang of it quickly,” Gustavo Scarpa told GQ Brasil.

“Now it’s easy. I even went to Paris with my wife and there the direction is like in Brazil and I found it a little strange. I’m British now.”

“I am completely fulfilled. The culture, the day-to-day education… It was everything I imagined when I decided to come here.”

Speaking of his popularity, Scarpa claims he’s been getting good acknowledgment from Nottingham Forest fans. He also claims that he’s been speaking good English, or at least he believes to be.

“When I arrived, nobody recognized me. Now people approach me, children ask to take a picture. But’s is a little different from Brazil. I think the approach is more restrained.”

“No one has ever corrected my English here. Either I look really good or the guys are really nice.”

“I can understand what the coach is saying, but the accent makes it a little difficult sometimes. But I always take away the doubt at the time so as not to have confusion.”

Always questioned about his love for skateboard, he revealed that he’s been trying to convince his Nottingham Forest teammate Renan Lodi to ride with him. But due to the pregnancy of his wife, the midfielder has actually been spending less time at parks and staying more at home with her. He said that when he signed with Forest, they didn’t know they’d be having a baby.

“He bought a helmet, an elbow pad… He doesn’t know anything, he’s learning. I remembered my beginning too. He’s enjoying it.”

“I’m always at two tracks here: Flo Skatepark and Lady Bay Skatepark. There are people here who know me, but I usually ride alone.”

“I have reduced the rides a bit because Sarah arrived here and she is seven months pregnant.”

Scarpa is also glad that he’s been finding Brazilian food in England.

“It’s great because you know British cuisine isn’t the best (laughs).”
