FC Porto star Mehdi Taremi has revealed receiving offers to join Newcastle United and Everton.

That was said in an interview with the Iranian press, which is covered by Portuguese outlet Record.

Speaking of his future, Taremi started by explaining he previously turned down the chance to join Newcastle.

“At that time, I didn’t imagine that they would get such a good team that would qualify for the Champions League. They were fighting not to go down… I thought that staying at FC Porto was better. And we had many games in the Champions League, I couldn’t miss that.”

The striker then revealed he could have joined Everton this summer, but isn’t keen on moving to Goodison Park either.

“Now there is an opportunity, but even now, for example, Everton’s offer doesn’t interest me.”

Taremi has been linked to a few Premier League clubs this year, including Manchester United and Wolverhampton Wanderers, but his stories about Newcastle and Everton are completely new.

Even though Portuguese clubs often make huge requests for the player, especially if we’re talking about the league’s top scorer here, this wouldn’t be the case for Taremi.

That’s because the striker is about to turn 31, and there’s only one year left in his contract with Porto. So Everton could see him as an affordable player, as he’s currently valued by Transfermarkt at €18m. The Toffees would just need to work harder on convincing to make the move.
