When it comes to giving young players a chance in the first-team, Everton have been among the best for many years.
The Blues pride themselves on their ability to develop young players for the first team, but they’re even prouder about giving them their chances in it.
It’s something they turned away from in recent years in favour of big-money signings but, the arrival of Marcel Brands put them back on track.
The Dutchman is a Director of Football who wants to see young players breaking through, and that means plenty of opportunities will be given to the most talented youngsters available.
Sadly that is yet to happen for Nathangelo Markelo, who, despite having been at Everton since 2017, is yet to make his first-team debut.
That’s something he’s hoping to change in future; otherwise, a move somewhere else to get the minutes he wants may be on the cards.
“Of course I hope I can make minutes at Everton 1 (the first-team)” he told Voetbal International, relayed by Voetbal Primeur.
“If not, I will look further into the Netherlands or another country. I’m ready for men’s football. Is the Eredivisie is an option? Yes, certainly.”
