Everton have ‘sprung up’ as one of the potential options for Napoli forward Hirving Lozano this summer.
That’s according to CalcioMercato, who say the Mexican winger is looking increasingly likely to leave Napoli after just one year at the club.
Lozano joined the Serie A side in a club-record £34m deal from PSV Eindhoven last summer but has struggled to find his form in Italy, with just three goals and two assists to his name in 28 games this season.
The arrival of Gennaro Gattuso at the club has only worsened his situation as he’s managed just six appearances and 135 minutes of football under him.
Recent weeks have seen the rumours about a departure growing and CalcioMercato add to that by saying ‘there are no opportunities’ for Lozano at the club.
As such, it’s looking like he will leave and the website reports that Everton have ‘sprung up’ as a potential destination for him with Carlo Ancelotti now at Goodison Park.
The Italian was one of the ‘main sponsors’ of Lozano’s move to Napoli, and that, coupled with the ‘economic availability’ Everton have makes them an obvious solution to the issue.
Napoli, for their part, ‘cannot afford capital losses’ on Lozano, suggesting they would want to recoup close to what they paid for him last summer in any potential sale.
It’s becoming increasingly difficult for them to do that, though, with the player’s lack of playing time and disappointing performances only helping to lower Lozano’s value.
The situation is complicated, to say the least, but the idea is there that, should Everton want Lozano there may be a deal to be done that would suit all parties.
