Everton saw a bid for Lyon midfielder Maxence Caqueret fall by the wayside, as he was seemingly not interested in the switch.
That’s according to journalist Fabrice Hawkins, who reports that the midfielder did not respond to Everton’s approaches for him.
The Toffees appear determined to add to their midfield options before the end of the transfer window after selling Amadou Onana to Aston Villa earlier this summer.
A deal for Lyon’s Orel Mangala appears to be in the final stages, with the French side happy to loan him out until the end of the season.
But it appears Everton also tried for a different Lyon player, with Hawkins reporting that they ‘tried to recover’ Maxence Caqueret as well.
Unfortunately for them that failed before it even took off, with the midfielder not responding to approached from the Toffees at this point. Perhaps that is why they then turned towards Mangala instead.
Why he wasn’t interested isn’t made clear, but it seems the Lyon midfielder, who has been with the club his whole career to date, wasn’t even willing to give them minor encouragement.
