Everton midfielder James Rodriguez has a ‘verbal agreement’ to join Qatari side Al Rayyan, according to reports.

Journalist Cesar Luis Merlo claims the 30-year-old is moving to the Middle East on a season-long loan deal.

Al Rayyan are reportedly spending €8m on the move. That amount would cover the transfer fee and the player’s salary.

Rodriguez’s current contract with Everton expires in June 2022, which means he’d be loaned until the end of the deal. However, the Toffees have an option to extend it for a further year.

James Rodriguez’s trip to Qatar started being reported on Sunday night, with  recent claims saying it was Jorge Mendes who convinced him to travel to Doha before making a decision on the move.

Signed from Real Madrid in 2020, the Colombian star had 26 appearances for Everton, with six goals and nine assists. He did not feature for the Toffees since Rafa Benitez’s arrival at the club.
