On Monday we covered claims from Spain of Everton’s interest in Borja Iglesias.

It was reported by Marca, a Spanish sport newspaper, that the Toffees have been prepared to pay Iglesias’ €28m buyout clause at Espanyol, and take him during the January window.

Unfortunately for the Premier League club, he isn’t keen on moving anywhere during the winter market, so unless there’s a big turnaround a deal won’t be happening.

Espanyol specialists La Grada go a little further with what happened, and say Everton made efforts to speak to the player to find out his transfer intentions. When the club were made aware there was no desire for a transfer, they decided against putting any offer in.

That would suggest that Everton weren’t initially looking to pay the full clause of €28m and would have first tried for a cheaper transfer.

It’s insisted Everton’s plans have come from ‘real interest’, but there’s not a lot they can do if the striker is set against it.

La Grada suggest it could be a different story in the summer.
