Everton midfielder Amadou Onana has insisted he is not trying to compare himself to or reinvent himself as former Blues favourite Marouane Fellaini.

Onana has been a big hit at Goodison Park since arriving in a big money from Lille in the summer as part of the rebuild under Frank Lampard.

His tall frame and imposing physique have quickly seen him likened to compatriot Fellaini, who was a fan favourite during his time at Goodison Park.

The midfielder spent five years at Everton before a move to Manchester United in 2013, scoring 33 goals and registering 26 assists in 177 games during his time on Merseyside.

He is still fondly thought of to this day and if Onana manages to replicate him in any way, he is sure to establish himself as something of favourite as well.

It seems, though, the current Everton star has no intention of copying from his predecessor, and instead plans to make his own path.

“With all the humility I have, I would never make this comparison of myself,” Walfoot report him saying.

“Marouane has been vital for the Devils, but I think we have different styles. I’m not trying to be Marouane Fellaini, I’m trying to be the best version of myself on the pitch.

“I’m missing a lot of things at 21. I have the chance to play with the best players in the world. Eden, Axel, Romelu, I could name the whole team.

“I can learn from all the players even those in the lower leagues. I’m open to learning and I take advice where I can get it.”
