Claims from Italy’s TMW that Everton ‘could make an offer’ for Yacine Brahimi and ‘burn’ the competition have been picked up in Portugal.

TMW said that whilst AC Milan and Lazio are interested in the player, who is set to become a free agent in June, they could find themselves pushed to one side by an effort from the Premier League club.

Portuguese newspaper O Jogo explain in their Sunday edition that a move wouldn’t be so easy. The player is in a very complicated situation which is causing difficulties for his club Porto.

When they signed Brahimi it was with help from sport investment company Doyen. The deal was that Doyen would receive 50% of a future transfer, or that Porto would have to pay them €6.5m if they don’t sell the player and he leaves for nothing.

O Jogo say this all has to be taken into consideration, and they suggest it will make a move more difficult. But from Porto’s perspective it surely makes sense to sell to Everton, or anyone else, and take the 50% and then not have to pay the €6.5m.

Of course, any offer would have to be for a total of €13m or more, to make sure Doyen still get their money.
