Ajax midfielder Davy Klaassen has again opened up on his unsuccessful stint at Everton, labelling his time at the club as ‘very strange’.

Klaassen joined the Toffees in a £24.3m deal back in 2017, with the Blues spending big that summer as part of a summer rebuild under Ronald Koeman and new director of football Steve Walsh.

He arrived at Goodison Park with a growing reputation, having impressed with Ajax in their run to the Europa League final the previous season.

However, his time at Everton proved to be nothing short of disastrous, with him managing just 16 appearances and 820 minutes of football that year.

He was quickly moved on the following year, with Everton taking a £12m loss and sending him to Werder Bremen in Germany.

He’s spoken regularly about his time on Merseyside since and opened up again in a recent chat with the Ajax podcast.

“Playing abroad has changed me,” he said, relayed by Ajax Showtime.

“I hardly played at Everton, and that was a very strange year for me.

“Before that, I played everything at Ajax, which gave me a difficult season in England.

“Of course, it was also good to learn how to deal with that, because in your life and your career, not everything goes well.
