Loaning out Jonjoe Kenny to Schalke 04, Everton needed someone to provide competition for Seamus Coleman at the right-back spot.

After a search around Europe, Marco Silva and co. decided to give Djibril Sidibé a chance, loaning him from AS Monaco with an option to buy at €17m.

Since then, it’s been a decent season for the Frenchman, who had to deal with a managerial change, and the player has enjoyed himself so much he’d like to stay.

He’s said so on a couple of occasions, and it appears the feeling from Everton is mutual.

According to L’Equipe on Wednesday, the ‘idea’ from those in charge at Goodison Park is to ask the principality side ‘for another one year loan’.

The main reason for this is that, in a post Covid-19 transfer market, Everton ‘haven’t put aside an envelope of money’ of €17m for the right-back position.

With more pressing matters, like the centre of defence or midfield, the Toffees are therefore trying to find a happy medium of keeping Sidibé beyond the current campaign without spending lots of money.

But, and it’s a big one, L’Equipe explain this won’t be resolved soon, as we first need to wait for the end of the Premier League campaign and see what Paul Mitchell, the man expected to be Monaco’s next director of football, decides.
