Everton are ‘about to close’ a season-long loan deal for Sporting Club de Portugal defender Ruben Vinagre.

That’s according to Record, who say the Blues will pay the defender’s wages in full and have an option to make the move a permanent one.

The newspaper reports that Everton and Sporting are ‘very close’ to reaching an understanding for the 23-year-old.

Indeed, they are so close to an agreement for him that Sporting boss Rubem Amorim has left him out of his pre-season plans.

The two sides are currently discussing a loan deal that will see Everton pay Vinagre’s wages in full. He currently earns around €800,000 net a year, so around €16,000 a week.

Everton have also agreed to have an option to buy included in the deal, which will be worth €10m. That’s the figure that Sporting paid to sign the player from Wolverhampton Wanderers this summer.

The defender was signed by Kevin Thelwell, who is now the director of football at Goodison Park, in 2018 before spending various loan spells at the likes of Olympiacos, Famalicao and then Sporting.

The latter elected to sign him for €10m this summer but have already decided to move him on and Everton are willing to pay that figure next year if this loan spell is a success.
