Idrissa Gana Gueye’s move from Paris Saint Germain to Everton is moving as expected, with the player ‘optimistic’ about the switch.

That’s according to journalist Marc Mechenoua, who says ‘only a few details remain’ for the transfer to be settled once and for all.

Gueye has been linked with a return to Goodison Park all summer, having been put on the list of undesirables by the French giants.

It has been a rollercoaster of a negotiation, with difficulties arising between PSG and Gueye, Everton and Gueye and then Everton and PSG at various stages.

The necessary breakthrough appears to have come this week, though, with reports yesterday stating a medical was planned for the next 48 hours as there was an ‘agreement in principle’ between all parties.

Mechenoua picks up on that today and says ‘only a few details remain to be settled’ for the midfielder to make his return to Everton.

He reports that the two clubs are ‘close to an agreement’ and Gueye is ‘optimistic’ about signing a two-year deal with an option of a third with the Blues.

That’s good news for Everton fans, who it seems will still have to wait a short while yet for this one to be done but should remain confident that it will be before the deadline.
