Everton and Newcastle United are chasing Schalke midfielder Weston McKennie, if claims coming from Germany are to be believed.
Sport1 earlier reported the 21-year-old wants to leave the Bundesliga side this summer.
Bild have backed these claims and further state two more Premier League clubs, beside the Toffees and the Tyneside club, are keen on the United States international.
It’s stated the player is not only looking to leave Schalke, but he also dreams of making a switch to the Premier League.
In addition to this, Schalke sports director Jochen Schneider is willing to sanction McKennie’s sale in the next window, if the club receives a suitable offer.
Speaking to Sport1 on Wednesday, Schneider said: “A departure is not out of the question. I can’t say that 100 percent right now. The fact is that with Weston we extended until 2024 a year ago.”
The American clearly has a long contract and according to the report, David Wagner’s side are hoping to get ‘at least €25m’ for him. Bild are of the belief the likes of Carlo Ancelotti’s side and the Magpies will be able to meet McKennie’s asking price.
Bild add ‘a good deal will be a blessing’ for Schalke, who have suffered economic losses after the Covid-19 pandemic.
It remains to be seen if either Everton, Newcastle or any other English club will submit an offer for McKennie, who scored three goals in 28 league appearances this season.
