While Erik ten Hag’s job at Manchester United is clearly on the line, it seems he may not be unemployed for long in case he’s sacked.
For a while the Dutch media started has been presenting him as a solution for Ajax, and some new claims on that story are now found on Soccer News.
Dutch pundit Mike Verweij is the one with the quotes, claiming that as Ajax look for a new manager for next season, the Manchester United boss should be the priority for them, even though there’s still no guarantee he’ll be free to take the job.
“Ten Hag is still the dream candidate, but they are also working on a plan B, C and D If Ten Hag says ‘no’, they do want something else. There are also talks with a foreign candidate now.”
After the 2-2 draw against Bournemouth at the weekend, Manchester United now stand 7th in the Premier League table, and it’s starting to look impossible for them to get a place in the Champions League next season.
It’s no secret that Sir Jim Ratcliffe will want to make changes at the club this summer, and if case Ten Hag believes he’ll be the first to go, he should probably encourage Ajax to wait for him.
