For quite some time the media around Fiorentina have made it clear the club want to keep Lucas Torreira beyond the end of his current loan deal from Arsenal.

The player has been key in the Serie A side’s midfield, and is enjoying his football again following an inevitably difficult period after the death of his mother.

Fiorentina have a €15m clause through which they can turn the loan from the Gunners into a full transfer. However, they don’t want to pay that, and in typical Italian-club style, would expect the rich Premier League side to hand out a discount.

Therefore, according to La Nazione, via Labaro Viola, the club are set to enter talks with Arsenal to try and quickly agree a fee and therefore secure Torreira’s future with them.

They want to do that ‘before Easter’, and there appears to be some confidence that Arsenal will play ball. Torreira is 26-years-of-age and in normal circumstances it would be expected he’s worth more than even the €15m that Fiorentina don’t want to pay.

What could go in the Tuscany club’s favour is that his contract expires in June 2023, putting some pressure on the situation.
