Hector Bellerin and Barcelona is a story which simply refuses to die. Every day, and sometimes several times a day, the Catalan press report a new angle on the situation.
Often, that angle also involves Manchester City, with Pep Guardiola’s side seen as Barcelona’s biggest competition for the player. Of Course, the Catalan press make sure everyone knows Barcelona is Bellerin’s preference, but they also want it known that what he’s turning his nose up at is attractive too, so Guardiola will do for that task.
Monday’s edition of Catalan newspaper Sport nonchalantly says Manchester City had a €40m offer refused last summer. That doesn’t sound surprising, Bellerin may have signed a new contract since then, but his stock was arguably higher a year ago.
€40m would have seemed cheap for such a move between two of the Premier League’s biggest clubs. However, it’s seen as a lot by Sport, who point out that if Arsenal can refuse such an offer from Manchester City, Barcelona need to be aware they’ll have to spend big bucks.
There’s nothing really new here, other than a Manchester City offer being claimed. Once again Guardiola’s side are used as a prop in the Bellerin transfer saga.
