Barring surprises, Sporting manager Ruben Amorim is set to become Jurgen Klopp’s successor at Anfield if various claims coming out of Portugal and England are to be believed.
On Wednesday, Viktor Gyokeres’ agent said the striker could leave the Lions if Amorim were to make a switch to Liverpool after this season.
Thursday’s edition of Record again looks at claims of Liverpool’s interest in the 39-year-old, a day after he was voted the Primeira Liga’s Manager of the Month for March.
The newspaper also talks about Amorim’s ‘Midas Touch’ as he’s developed many players at the Portuguese club and turned them into profit for Sporting.
It’s pointed out the valuation of Sporting’s squad has increased by €100m since the start of this season. As per Transfermarkt, the squad was valued at €229.9m and their impressive season has seen it now raise to €339.9m.
Record state Geny Catamo is one of the main reasons for that as the 23-year-old’s valuation has increased by 1,200%, from €600,000 to €8m.
Amorim arrived at Sporting in 2020 and since then, he has developed multiple players who were sold for a higher price later. The list includes the likes of Pedro Porro, Manuel Ugarte, Matheus Nunes, Nuno Mendes and Joao Palhinha.
From the current Sporting squad, the Liverpool managerial target has helped Gyokeres, Marcus Edwards, Gonzalo Inacio, Pedro Goncalves and Ousmane Diomande improve their valuations.
His current squad may be worth €339.9m, but the added value Amorim has provided at Sporting is surely even more than that.
The list is huge and it’s impressive, something that will certainly please Liverpool, if they end up bringing Amorim to Anfield.
