Yosuke Ideguchi signed for Leeds United during the January transfer window, after a transfer chase which has been well known about for some time.

Leeds’ Victor Orta had used contacts in Japan to help identify and then negotiate the signing of Ideguchi and, luckily for the Championship club, the player himself was keen too.

Ideguchi was still keen even when he was told he’d have to go out on loan to Cultural Leonesa, in Spain’s second division, rather than ending up at Elland Road initialy.

Worried over a work permit and perhaps an ability to settle straight into Leeds United made the loan the chosen option.

Marca have a feature on the player in their Friday edition and are clearly impressed with the huge effort he’s made to get to European football, and then Leeds.

The Spanish newspaper says Ideguchi has ‘dreams beyond reason’ and has moved his young family over from Japan, despite not speaking a word of the language or being quite sure what to expect.

It all underlines a determination, which Ideguchi will need after a start at Cultural which has seen him not involved as much as the player and Leeds will have hoped for.
