Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly negotiating with Sheffield United to sign their highly rated young talent David Brooks.

The 20-year-old has not fully established himself as a permanent starter for United but he is one of the brightest young talents to have emerged from the academy in recent years.

According to reports from The Sun, Spurs are looking to sign him and have identified him as a top priority in the summer. Talks are currently underway, with Spurs willing to pay around £10 million for the exciting youngster.

He has scored twice this season and has provided three assists in 19 appearances for the Blades this season. He has certainly looked a real talent.

The Wales international is primarily an attacking midfielder, but Spurs are looking to convert him into a striker and emulate Harry Kane.

The 24-year-old is arguably the best English striker at the moment, and has netted 35 goals in all competitions this season for the north London club.

However, Spurs have struggled with their signing of a second choice striker in recent years. Vincent Janssen has been sent on loan and there is no guarantee that he will play for Spurs again next season. Likewise, Fernando Llorente hasn’t quite delivered as expected, and it won’t be a surprise if Spurs decide to sign another striker next summer.

It can be argued that Tottenham’s lack of depth up front is a major factor in the team not taking the ‘next step’ in the Premier League and mounting another consistent challenge for the title. However, with rival teams spending more money on just agent fees than casinos make in a year, Tottenham’s transfer strategy can sometimes seem the equivalent of putting your money on a Videoslots bonus code and hoping that you hit the jackpot.

Brooks is fast and skilful but he is lightweight and certainly not ready for regular Premier League action at this moment. However, he could be a major threat for any club once he develops physically.

One option for Spurs would be to send him on loan to United to continue his progress and get regular games under his belt.

    • Spurs have helped many young players to shape their careers, and Brooks will be looking at how young players like Dele Alli and Harry Winks have made progress in their careers at Spurs.

In Mauricio Pochettino he will get a top class manager who can guide him to become a better player. The Argentine is always keen to involve young players, and there’s no doubt Brooks will get opportunities at Spurs, should he progress properly.

He would be a fantastic signing for Spurs and at £10 million looks like a real bargain (dare we say bonus?). Sheffield United will be keen to hold on to their star player, but the opportunity of playing for a big club like Spurs could be too tempting for young Brooks to reject outright.
