Tottenham playing Real Madrid again this week gives the Spanish media chance to write about one of their favourite English subjects: Daniel Levy.

El Confidencial take up the challenge, and explain that as well as Real Madrid getting the chance to play at the mythical Wembley this week, the club will also encounter the ‘almost mythical’ Daniel Levy.

In a football culture where directors of sport are more common, Levy, even though that’s not his role, receives more respect in Spain than perhaps he does elsewhere. Monchi didn’t build his reputation solely by spotting good talent for Sevilla, but also through getting deals done at good prices, and Levy is considered a master.

There’s no doubt for El Confidencial that Levy looming large plays a a big role in Florentino Perez being vague over any Harry Kane intentions, or perhaps even considering the transfer.

Perez may say he became friends with Tottenham during the transfers of Luka Modric and Gareth Bale, but familiar would probably be a better word.

Levy, explain El Confidencial, is very simple but very assured in how he gets the most money when selling players for Tottenham… he’s prepared to keep them. Patience is the name of the game and there’s no panic, Spurs either get the money they want or keep the player. A win/win.

Using comments from Mauricio Pochettino, it’s explained by the Spanish media outlet that Levy is actually ‘human and sensitive’, as if such suggestions would be silly.

But his inner strength is well known and will help Tottenham with future business. In just one aspect, it’s certainly making Perez less likely to try and sign Kane.
