Crystal Palace are preparing an offensive to sign midfielder Maxence Caqueret from Lyon in the January transfer window.

That’s according to Foot Mercato, who report that Caqueret is being ‘inexorably pushed’ towards the exit at the French club.

They state that several factors have found Caqueret being pushed towards the exit, with him no longer fitting into Pierre Sage’s plans and a thigh injury pushing him down the list.

That’s caught Crystal Palace’s interest, and they are looking to make their move for him this month, with a five-year deal being prepared. The fact that Lyon need to make sales to avoid being relegated at the end of the season also opens the door to a transfer.

Crystal Palace are ‘very keen’ on recruiting the 24-year-old and offering -year-old and offering a little less than €20m to secure him this month. They would also put a five-year deal on the table.

Negotiations would, presumably, be easy as Lyon are owned by John Textor, who is also a major shareholder at Crystal Palace. The American is still trying to sell those shares at Selhurst Park but is yet to do so.

But he could make use of his connections at both clubs to facilitate a transfer and ‘remove a real thorn from Lyon’s side’ in the process.

Nothing is close to being done at this moment in time and there are other Premier League teams ‘on the case’ as well, which makes the midfielder someone to keep an eye on this month.
