France Football have a big claim on Monday afternoon about Alphonse Areola being of interest to Rafael Benitez, but right at the end of their article they bring Crystal Palace in.

It’s claimed the Eagles and Napoli are also interested in the PSG goalkeeper, and there sounds an advantage for Palace. According to France Football, Areola has bought a house in London, which is described as ‘a city his wife loves’.

Crystal Palace fans are probably thinking this is a strange claim due to the agreement to sign Vicente Guaita when his Getafe contract ends next month.

The Premier League club have publicly confirmed this but that hasn’t stopped claims in Spain that the deal may not be quite as done as suggested.

Should the Guaita deal fail, which would seem unlikely given all that Palace have said, then Areola isn’t a bad alternative.

The 25 year old has been tussling with Kevin Trapp to be first choice at PSG, a battle he’s been winning this season. But with PSG linked to a string of top goalkeepers, there’s been some doubt over the Frenchman’s future.

A transfer fee is estimated at €15-20m.
