Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta is the ‘new name’ on Borussia Dortmund’s list of options as they look to bolster their forward line.

That’s according to BILD, who say the German side have identified the Crystal Palace forward as they want a player with a similar profile to Romelu Lukaku.

That applies to Mateta, and the striker is ‘under observation’ by the Bundesliga side as a result and he’s now on their list of options.

He’s currently contracted to Crystal Palace until 2026 but is only number three in Roy Hodgson’s options and thus could be allowed to leave this summer.

He would face a similar issue at Dortmund, where he would be third behind Sébastien Haller (29) and Youssoufa Moukoko but would have the prospect of playing in the Champions League and more football when Haller heads to the Africa Cup of Nations in January.

The key factor, though, is that he is an ideal alternative to Lukaku, and could be allowed to leave Crystal Palace for around €8m.

That’s manageable for Dortmund, who may now push for a move as they eye up a Lukaku like striker to add to their squad.
