They’re fond of Nikola Vlasic in Croatia. The 20 year old is from a sporting family, with his sister Blanka a high-jump champion.

When Vlasic moved to Everton there was huge coverage, with it being felt he’d hit the big time. Pictures were wheeled out of Vlasic as a child, supporting his famous big sister, and now here he was, the big star of the family.

Not a great deal was expected of the player’s first season, but expectations soon changed, and there’s been excitement around Vlasic’s involvement.

That was brought to an abrupt end when David Unsworth took over and Vlasic was then not only out of the team but also out of the squad. If there was to be any change, then it would have been expected Unsworth would rely on Vlasic more, believe Croatian newspaper Vecernji List.

There’s Everton fan ‘anger’ that Unsworth hasn’t gone down that route, say Vecernji List, and with big-sis Blanka confirming the forward is fit, many have been left confused.

Croatia have called up Vlasic for their crucial World Cup qualifiers against Greece, but if the youngster is ostracised from Everton’s playing squad, then the newspaper wonders what kind of shape he can be in for the matches next month.

Blanka’s insistence over there being no injury is also covered by Croatia’s 24Sata, and Vlasic’s disappearance from the Everton squad is a genuinely big story in the country.

There probably needn’t be any worry, as soon as Unsworth realises that dropping Vlasic isn’t a fan-pleasing move, the young forward will surely be straight back in the squad, with the interim manager using it as a chance to show he ‘gets’ Everton etc etc…
