Coventry City failing in their quest to get promotion to the Premier League means their transfer summer will be far different than it otherwise would have been.

One man likely to play a prominent part is Viktor Gyökeres.

There’s been multiple reports of interest from clubs in the Premier League and it’s expected the player will be on his way out of Coventry this summer.

In Portugal, Sporting have been strongly linked with the forward, and Sunday’s edition of Record has a big article on the situation.

It’s explained that Coventry have demanded €20m to part ways with their player, and this figure seems too high for the Lisbon club. Indeed, despite the multiple huge outgoing transfers from Sporting in recent years, paying €20m would make Gyökeres their record signing.

Therefore, the tactic now is to try and bully Coventry in negotiations. That they failed to get promotion will be one line of attack, as will the player’s contract situation.

Despite all of that, the Championship club will surely be aware they can get €20m from elsewhere, so Sporting may have to move on to other targets.
