On November 23rd, Goal Brasil explained that Newcastle United are the most interested club in the race to sign Santos star Marcos Leonardo.
A day later, claims from Brazil stated Santos have promised to let go of the striker in January for €18m.
Lance! now state Newcastle are one of the clubs to have shown interest in the 20-year-old.
After having failed to seal a move to AS Roma in the summer, the report states he’s set to receive offers from other clubs in the winter market. This is when the outlet points out the Magpies, along with Real Madrid, Nottingham Forest and Lazio.
Last week, the Newcastle target’s agent had stated the next window could be the “right time” for him to change clubs. The Brazilian has backed it up and ‘opens up negotiations’ to leave Santos.
“Yes, conversations are being held [with European teams]. But now my head is focused on Santos, ever since I decided to stay here to help the team. Thank God I’m helping. Total focus on this final stretch, the rest I leave to God,” he said, as quoted by Lance!
The South American has scored 21 goals and registered four assists from 46 games this year.
Leonardo seems to be heading to Europe in January and it’ll be interesting to see where he’ll end up.
