Chelsea reportedly invested £55m to sign Marc Cucurella in 2022 and he finished his debut season with 33 appearances.

The left-back’s situation has changed drastically this season as he’s been restricted to one appearance, which came in the EFL Cup win over AFC Wimbledon in August.

Chelsea are going through a ‘disaster’ spell at the moment and taking this into account, AS highlight Mauricio Pochettino’s decision to overlook the Spaniard.

The Blues have only one win from six league games and have suffered defeats against Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa at home. This has left them 14th in the table, nine points behind fourth placed Tottenham Hotspur.

In the last window, Cucurella came close to leaving Chelsea for Manchester United on loan, before deciding to stay at Stamford Bridge.

The report states ‘these are the consequences’ the 25-year-old has to face for not pushing for a move, considering Pochettino ‘does not trust’ him. They further add the player’s current situation at Stamford Bridge is now turning from strange to very serious.

Cucurella could be forced to look for a solution in January if he fails to get regular minutes at Chelsea in the next three months.
