On Thursday, A Bola and Record reported Benfica have turned down €100m bid for Enzo Fernández. The newspapers didn’t reveal the club that made the offer for the midfielder, but both specified it was ‘not from Liverpool’.

Later that day, another Portuguese newspaper, Correio da Manhã, stated the proposal for the 21-year-old was in fact made by the Reds.

Correio da Manhã not only contradicted A Bola and Record’s claims, but explained Liverpool sent a €100m bid on Wednesday, which was rejected by Benfica.

Portuguese journalist Pedro Sepúlveda gave his take on the Merseyside club’s interest in the Benfica star.

Sepúlveda took to Twitter to state it is ‘completely false’ there is an agreement in place with Liverpool or another club for the Argentina international’s transfer. He further claimed the Eagles are currently not carrying out negotiations with any club to sell Fernández

The journalist, however, said Benfica will ‘only sell’ the World Cup winners in January if any of his suitors trigger his €120m release clause. If not, Fernández will finish the season in Portugal.
