One of the many players bought by Manchester City and their City Group, Pablo Mari spent last season on loan at Deportivo La Coruña.

The centre-back was a regular in the La Liga2 side, playing in 37 games throughout the course of the 2018-19 campaign, during which he scored two goals.

These performances have led the Spanish side to try and keep him around for next season if they can, but there are a few issues to get that over the line, namely his contract.

In quotes relayed by El Desmarque, La Coruña’s director of football, Carmlo del Pozo, explained where things stood at this moment in time regarding the Manchester City loanee.

He said: “His situation is complicated because he has one year left on his contract with his club, meaning extending the loan isn’t possible. We’re looking, but he’s wanted because of the season he just had. We’ll have to see how the market pans out”.

The desire is certainly there from the Spanish side, but if Manchester City can cash in this summer, even if it is to only make a small profit on £180k they gave Gimnastic de Tarragona for Mari’s services back in 2016, then they probably will.

After his move to the Etihad, the now 25-year-old went straight on loan to Girona, followed by another temporary spell at NAC Breda before being sent to La Coruña last year.

A nomadic past few years, to say the least.
