The will they won’t they regarding Milan’s intentions for Diogo Dalot continues to run its course.
The Portuguese full-back was sent to San Siro on loan by Manchester United as it was clear he wasn’t going to fit in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s plans.
It was a ‘dry’ deal as no money was paid with no purchase clause attached, meaning he was always set to return to Old Trafford when his contract with the Italians expired.
However, his versatility has proven useful for Stefano Pioli, who has sometimes used him down the left flank in Théo Hernández’s absence, which is why there appears to be a desire to keep him around a while longer.
What Milan plan to do isn’t clear, but the newspaper state they ‘will try to keep him with a formula that offers more guarantees’.
To us, and we’re just speculating here while trying to use some logic, that sounds like the Serie A side would want Dalot on another loan, but one that could allow them to make the move permanent down the line should he continue to prove as useful as he has done so far.
Whether that’s something Solskjaer and the transfer people at Old Trafford would want remains to be seen, but considering they haven’t really missed him this season, we don’t see why they wouldn’t at least consider it.
