Jose Mourinho clearly wasn’t the happiest man in football after his Tottenham side lost to Manchester United at the weekend.

Before the match, Spurs looked like they had a reasonable chance of qualifying for the Champions League, yet after the loss and victories for other sides, they find themselves six points away from fourth place.

Mourinho will rightly feel it’s still possible to fight into the reckoning, and he’ll also be looking towards the EFL Cup final against Manchester City later this month, Should he manage to lift the trophy, then the manager will see his time in charge of Tottenham as a success, regardless of the standing of the competition.

There’s been repeat articles around the European sport media about the coach’s latest woes, with El Confidencial one of those covering it. They followed Mourinho closely throughout his time in charge of Real Madrid, and have a rather strong take on him.

Predictably saying he’s ‘ceased to be special’, they tell a Spanish audience the manager is again ‘on the brink of dismissal’, with his work ‘outdated’ and a failure to adapt holding him back.

Daniel Levy is said to be ‘obliged’ to keep with the manager ‘in case a miracle occurs’ and Tottenham qualify for the Champions League. That, plus the EFL Cup, would represent a successful season.

El Confidencial don’t seem convinced, and point out that Mourinho, along with his staff, has already received €57m in compensation after being sacked by previous clubs.
