Yankuba Minteh has had a successful season on loan with Feyenoord, with Newcastle United sending the player away to gain some experience at a higher level than he’d seen before.
There’s been a lot of positivity but also some criticism in the Netherlands, yet that has to be conditioned through the high standards which Dutch pundits expect. At times it feels like everyone is being held to the standards of Johan Cruyff, and it’s that which Minteh and others have to contend with.
Thankfully, there’s been more positive reviews than negative ones for the Newcastle United youngster, especially recently, and Feyenoord have made no secret of their desire to retain him beyond the end of his loan.
A permanent deal is almost certainly out of the question, with Newcastle United being enthused by this season and wanting him to go tour with them in the summer.
Voetbal International say Feyenoord ‘will do everything’ they can to secure a deal.
Dennis te Kloese, a director at the Dutch club, is quoted as saying: “It turned out to be an excellent deal. We have good contact with Newcastle and both parties are happy with how things went. Everyone now sees that it can be a good construction for those types of clubs to first rent out such players for a year.”
And, perhaps, for a second year too…
